چکیده

This paper represents an overview of the activities carried out in the framework of RTO/AVT Working Group 10, Subgroup 1, dedicated to plug nozzle aerothermodynamics and performance. The subgroup worked out two main objectives: i) thorough understanding of the flow physics of plug nozzles trough literature review and recent experiments conducted in Europe and USA; ii) definition of CFD test cases, conduction of CFD calculations and comparison with experimental data. This paper summarizes the findings of the flow physics based on literature review and recent experiments. It is the result of the many interesting discussions promoted by all members participating to the subgroup, whose contribution is acknowledged by the authors. In particular, the following key topics are discussed in depth in the paper: Survey on Past AGARD Activities. The Fundamental Aspects of Plug Nozzle Flowfields. The Wake Structure Transition from Open to Closed. The Influence of the External Flow. Plug Nozzle Base Pressure versus Flight Altitude. Altitude Adaptive Character of Plug Nozzles with Regard to Performance. Contour Design Methods. Aerospike: Thrust Vector Control.

Choosing between multiple ontological perspectives is crucial for reasoning about the physical world. Choosing the wrong perspective can make a reasoning task impossible. This paper introduces a Lagrangian plug flow ontology (PF) for reasoning about thermodynamic fluid flow. We show that this ontology captures continuously changing behaviors of flowing fluids not represented in currently implem...

Ministry of Technology

This is an experimental comparison Of two axi-symmetric, isentropic plug nozzles. In one of these (Model No. 1) the afterbody is cylindricaland a secondary flow is bled into the annular base. The other (Model No. 2) has a parabolic afterbody with no base or bleed. In both cases the expansion is all-external and the design pressure ratio is 14. These models were tested over a range of primary an...

Numerical investigation of the effect of swirl and needle lift profile change on the diesel fuel spray behavior

In this study, the effect of creation swirly flow and needle lift profile change on the behavior of the diesel fuel spray considered. To this end, two phase flow inside the diesel injector was simulated using the CFD. Solid works software has been used for geometry creation and AVL-Fire software has been used for meshing and simulating. Firstly, the liquid flow and spray characteristics of the ...

Optimization of Low Pressure Vortex Tube via Different Axial Angles of Injection Nozzles

In this article, a Ranque–Hilsch Vortex Tube has been optimized utilizing axial angles for nozzles. Effect of nozzles angles on the flow behavior has been investigated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques. A finite volume approach with the standard k–ε turbulence model has been used to carry out all the computations. The dimensions of studied vortex tubes are kept the same for all m...

Investigation the effects of injection pressure and compressibility and nozzle entry in diesel injector nozzle’s flow

Investigating nozzle’s orifice flow is challenging both experimentally and theoretically. This paper focuses on simulating flow inside diesel injector nozzle via Ansys fluent v15. Validation is performed with experimental results from Winkhofler et al (2001). Several important parameters such as mass flow rate, velocity profiles and pressure profiles are used for this validation. Results includ...
